CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Following a stellar weekend in which Lehigh took three of four games against first place Army, Mountain Hawk pitcher Cory Kent has been named Patriot League pitcher of the week after recording saves in all three victories this weekend. Kent picks up his first Patriot League Pitcher of the Week award.
A preseason candidate for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year award, Kent had perhaps his finest weekend by recording three consecutive saves as Lehigh won its weekend series against Army. He came on to pitch a scoreless inning in Lehigh's 3-2 and 8-6 victories on Sunday and the Mountain Hawks' 7-6 triumph on Monday. Kent allowed just two hits in his three innings of work, and did not allow more than one base runner in any of the outings.
The junior, who saved a Lehigh single season record nine games last season, moves up to a tie for third in Patriot League history with 17 career saves. Kent is Lehigh' all-time leader in career saves has seven saves this year.
Lehigh finished this past weekend by taking three of four games from the defending Patriot League champion Black Knights. Lehigh now sits in fourth place in Patriot League standings, but only one game out of first place.
Lehigh will be back in action this Wednesday as it hosts Penn at 3:30 p.m. on the Goodman campus. The Mountain Hawks will host their final Patriot League series this upcoming weekend against Bucknell.
