Mountains Hawks look for revenge against Army this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On Sunday the Lehigh baseball team will welcome first place Army to Goodman campus in a weekend doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and will look to take sole possession of fourth place in the Patriot League. Lehigh currently stands in a fourth place tie with holy cross in Patriot League play with a record of 3-5. Army currently sits atop the league standing with a record of 6-2.
Lehigh is looking to regain momentum after splitting last weekend's double header with Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks earned a 9-2 victory in the first game and fell to the Leopards in the second game 8-3. On the defensive end sophomore Brandon Sady and junior Dan Ciccone played a critical role in the Lehigh victory. In five innings Sady recorded the victory, giving up only three hits and two runs while striking out five batters. Ciccone relieved Sady and went on to pitch two scoreless innings of his own. Offensively Lehigh put together a solid team effort and recorded 13 hits, four Mountain Hawk players recorded multiple hit games. Senior Brendan Pifer lead the way with three hits and one RBI, fellow seniors Billy Goldman, Andy Russell and Logan Winchester chipped in with two hits of their own, Goldman also knocked out his second homerun of the season.
In game two the Leopards came out hot, after two innings they had a 6-0 lead. Winchester had another multiple hit game, Mihalik also recorded his second home run of the season but Lafayette's early lead proved to be too much, Lehigh fell to the Leopards 8-3.
The Black Knights come into the Lehigh Valley having won 12 of their last 18 games with victories coming against Navy, Holy Cross and Siena. Army is off to their best start since 1996. Army most recently came away with a 3-2 victory over rival Navy behind the clutch batting of junior J.T. Watkins who delivered a game winning RBI single in the bottom on the 10th inning.
The Mountain Hawks will take to the field to avenge last season's four-game series sweep, the Black Knights own a 67-32 advantage in the all-time series. Following this weekend, Lehigh will be back in action on Tuesday against Penn.
Following this weekend's action, Lehigh will host Penn on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
