Wray, Philadelphia Wings to kick off season on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Lehigh men's lacrosse assistant coach and Philadelphia Wings captain Taylor Wray will begin the 2011 NLL season on Saturday when the squad hosts the Boston Blazers at the Wells Fargo Center. Wray returns as one of the Wings' top defenders, as he tallied 51 loose balls in 13 games last season.

Wray is a highly decorated indoor lacrosse player, ever since his rookie season in 2004 when he won the NLL Championship with Calgary while also capturing both Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year. He was traded to the Wings in 2007, where he has continued to excel.

Saturday's opener is especially notable for Philadelphia as the franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary season.

Wray was a successful field player, graduating from Duke in 2003 where he helped lead the Blue Devils to three NCAA Tournament appearances. He also teamed with current Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese to captain the '03 squad. Wray went on to play for Team Canada in the 2006 FIL World Championships, leading his country to a gold medal.

The present day Mountain Hawks open their 2011 season on Feb. 12 when they host Saint Joseph's at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
