Lehigh looks to bounce back at Navy on Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to overcome Saturday's loss to American, as they travel to Navy on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip against the Midshipmen. With a victory, the Mountain Hawks would improve to 1-1 in league play. A win would also improve Lehigh to 11-6 overall, after starting the season 1-5.
The Mountain Hawks (10-6) are coming off a 64-51 loss to the American Eagles on Jan. 8. American shot 46.9 percent from the field for the game, and were led by Liz Leer's 25 points. Despite shooting 37.5 percent from the field in the first half, Lehigh struggled to hit shots in the second half, shooting just 21.4 percent and 28.6 percent for the game. Erica Prosser led the way for the Mountain Hawks, scoring 10 points and dishing out seven assists. Senior Courtney Dentler added 11 points and six rebounds, while senior Kristen Dalton had 10 points and six rebounds.
Navy enters Wednesday with an 8-7 record and a 1-0 record, tied for first in Patriot League play. The Midshipmen are most recently coming off a 62-56 victory at Bucknell on Jan. 8. Navy is 3-4 in home games this year, which included wins over Mount St. Mary's, Howard and Harvard. Leading the offense for the Midshipmen is senior guard Angela Myers, who is averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 assists per game. Senior center Cassie Consedine is the Navy's top post player, averaging 11.7 points per contest and 5.3 rebounds. Jade Geif is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 6.9 boards per game. Navy is a dangerous team from three-point range, as it leads the Patriot league in three-point field goal percentage (.351).
Lehigh holds a 23-20 all-time advantage against the Midshipmen. Lehigh has won the last six matchups, including a 54-53 Mountain Hawk victory in the last matchup on Feb. 11, 2010. The teams first met during the 1981-82 season as the Midshipmen grabbed the 76-54 win.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Sunday Jan. 16 to West Point, N.Y. to face Army. The Mountain Hawks return home on Jan. 19 and will play host to Colgate. Tickets now on sale and may be purchased on Lehighsports.com or by calling the ticket office at (610) 7LU-GAME.
