Lehigh concludes action in New Jersey

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – Lehigh sent eight crews to the Knecht Cup this weekend and five of those entries advanced to the second day of racing, including the women’s pair and the men’s freshmen 8, freshmen 4, varsity 4 and club 4. The men’s varsity four placed second in the petite final on Sunday as the Mountain Hawks finished in a time of 6:50.28 and crossed in front of four other crews, and the women’s pair competed in Sunday’s Grand Final.
On the women’s side the varsity pair finished its opening race in a time of 9:08.34 to place fifth. The Mountain Hawks then crossed in 8:41.23 to finish third in the semifinal and advance to Sunday’s Grand Final where the pair crossed in 8:55.67 to finish sixth. The varsity 4 A crew placed fifth in its opening heat with a time of 8:26.95, while the varsity B entry crossed in sixth place in a time of 8:51.95. The varsity 8 finished its race in a time of 7:10.58 which placed the Brown and White in fifth place in the heat.
In men’s events, the freshmen 8 finished in a time of 6:32.13 to place third in its opening race, the varsity 4 placed fourth in its first heat as the Mountain Hawks finished in a time of 6:58.47, the freshmen 4 finished its opening heat in third place with a time of 7:42.79 and the club 4 defeated UConn and Bucknell to take second in its first race as it finished in 7:15.52.
In Sunday’s men’s races the freshmen eight finished fourth in the petite final after finishing in a time of 6:34.77, the freshmen four placed third in the petite final with a time of 7:28.79, the varsity four defeated crews from Lafayette, Pittsburgh, Drexel and Dowling to place second in the petite final with a time of 6:50.28, and the club four took fifth in its final as it finished in 7:11.94.
Lehigh returns home next weekend as the Mountain Hawks host the River Cup on the Lehigh River versus archrival Lafayette.
