Brown and White to take on American in PL opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh will head to the nation’s capital to open up Patriot League play this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against the American Eagles. The Mountain Hawks made it eight in a row with a 66-51 win over Penn this past Tuesday night. Sophomore Emily Gratch led the way as she recorded her second double-double of the season (15,10). During its winning-streak, the Brown and White are out-scoring its opponents by a scoring margin of +14.1. American comes into Saturday after earning a win against Maryland-Eastern Shore 57-46 on January 4. The Eagles are led by Michelle Kirk who is leading the league in points per game this season with 19.0.
Gratch’s double-double against Penn is the fourth by a Lehigh player this season (Alexa Williams, Courtney Dentler and Gratch). Even with all of the success of last year’s team, not one player recorded a double-double during the magical run.
During Lehigh’s eight game win streak three players are averaging double figures in points: Erica Prosser (15.3), Alex Ross (13.1) and Gratch (12.3). The Mountain Hawks’ defense has stepped it up as their turnover margin is +4.8 and they are averaging 10.5 steals per game during the streak.
Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon from Bender Arena in Washington, D.C. The game will be broadcast live on WLVR-FM (91.3) and can also be heard live on Lehighsports.com with Jeff Tourial calling the action.
