BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two days of racing await the Lehigh rowers this weekend as the Mountain Hawks get set to host their first event of the spring season and then travel south to compete against a tough field of competitors. On Saturday, Lehigh will welcome archrival Lafayette, as well as in-state foes Penn State and Franklin & Marshall to the Steiner/Steinberg Boathouse for the second-ever Neuweiler Plate. Following the races on Saturday the Mountain Hawks will load their trailer and head to Virginia where they will compete in the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday.
Saturday’s action will begin at approximately 10:00 with the women’s varsity 8 race. The men’s varsity 8 event will follow and then it will be onto the women’s novice 8 and the men’s novice 8. Action is scheduled to conclude around 12:10 PM with the women’s second varsity 8 race.
Following Saturday’s races the men’s and women’s varsity 8 crews will pack their bags and head south to Lorton, Virginia where they will compete in the always tough Occoquan Sprints on Sunday. Action begins at 10:42 AM for Lehigh when the men compete in their opening heat, while the women’s first heat of the day will take place at 11:03 AM.
Last weekend Lehigh traveled to Philadelphia where the Mountain Hawks competed against Drexel and Villanova on the Schuylkill River. The men’s varsity 4 won its respective race with a time of 6:34.7, while the women’s varsity 8 showed a significant increase in their time versus last year’s race against the two Philly schools as the Brown and White crossed in 6:52.3.
