Lehigh back in action on Monday vs. Detroit

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh gets little time to rest as the Mountain Hawks return to action on Monday afternoon when they play host to Detroit-Mercy at the Ulrich Sports Complex in the first-ever meeting between the schools in men’s lacrosse. Lehigh will look to shake off an 8-6 loss to No. 17 Yale on Saturday in a game in which the Brown and White tied things at six in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs scored the final two goals to pull away for the win. Detroit meanwhile is searching for its first win of the season after falling to St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday 15-6.
Freshman Dante Fantoni is Lehigh’s leading scorer this season with seven goals and five assists. The first-year standout netted a hat trick in Lehigh’s game versus Yale over the weekend and also handed out an assist. Classmate David DiMaria has scored 11 points thus far and sophomore Adam Johnston is the team’s leading goal scorer with nine.
In the X for Lehigh Ryan Snyder (24-51) and Will Scudder (40-72) continue to split time for the Mountain Hawks with Snyder scooping up 16 ground balls on the season and Scudder totaling 12. Senior Evan Guerrero has caused a team-leading 12 turnovers and Blaise Fullen has caused six. Freshman Dan Carr has stopped 61 shots in goal in 345 minutes of action and he also picked up an assist in the game against Yale.
The Titans have allowed double digit goals in each of their games this season and have yet to score more than eight themselves in a game. Joel Matthews has led Detroit in the early going with 13 scores and 16 points, while Matt Gregson has scored four goals. Brandon Davenport has taken the majority of the Titans face-offs, winning 30-of-55 (54%) and he has scooped up 13 ground balls. Scott Harris has scooped up ten ground balls, while Jamie Heben has totaled 11 GBs and caused eight turnovers. A.J. Levell has played 240 minutes of action in goal this season and stopped 47 shots in that time.
Lehigh and Detroit are meeting for the first time in history on Monday. The teams will take on two common opponents this season, including Yale and Saint Joseph’s.
