Cassese to appear on ESPNU with national team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Smith Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kevin Cassese will escape the frigid temperatures of the Northeast this weekend as he heads to sunny Florida to compete as a member of Team USA as they take on Duke University as well as the United States Military Academy in a pair of exhibition matches as part of the fifth annual Champion Challenge. The game versus Duke is slated for 1:00 on Sunday, January 31 and will be televised later that evening at 10:00 PM on ESPNU.
The fifth annual Champion Challenge will take place Jan. 30 – 31. The event, organized by US Lacrosse and sponsored by Champion Athleticwear, will feature the U.S. men’s and women’s national lacrosse teams as well as Duke University men’s and women’s teams, the United States Military Academy’s men’s team, the University of Notre Dame and University of Florida women’s programs. Team USA will compete versus Army on Saturday, January 30 at 3:00.
US Lacrosse is the national governing body for men’s and women’s lacrosse, and is the parent organization of the U.S. men’s and women’s national lacrosse teams. Cassese was named to the U.S. National Team for the third time earlier this fall. It completed a long journey that consisted of three tryout sessions and pitted the Mountain Hawks head coach against the nation’s top lax players. The U.S. team will look to win back the gold medal this upcoming summer when it travels to Manchester, England to compete under head coach Mike Pressler, who also coached Cassese during his collegiate days at Duke University.
