BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh dropped its second straight game on Tuesday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks suffered an 8-6 loss to Marist at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Lehigh’s offense never seemed to get in gear and the Red Foxes scored eight of the game’s final 11 goals to hold off the Mountain Hawks on a rainy afternoon.  Kelly Condon led the visitors with four goals as Marist improves to 3-5 with the win, while Lauren Dykstra and Inneke Carmola scored two goals each for the Brown and White who falls to 8-2 following the setback.

“We weren’t good today,” Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern explained afterwards.  “I thought Marist was scrappy and made the most of their opportunities.”  She continued, “I felt like we made a lot of mistakes and over time those mistakes add up.  Marist did not make as many and it showed in the end.  We need to continue to work hard.  We’ll go back to practice tomorrow and look to fix our errors.  We need to continue working on our transition defense and fix the simple things like catching and throwing.”

Lehigh out shot its counterpart 28-21 on Tuesday but the Mountain Hawks committed 19 turnovers to only 12 for the Red Foxes.  Sophomore Leigh Ann Torcivia won a team-best four draw controls for Lehigh and Dykstra caused two turnovers.  Freshman ML DiNisco played all 60 minutes in goal for the Mountain Hawks and stopped seven shots in her 60 minutes of work.

Ariel Kramer led the Red Foxes with six shots with Condon not far behind with five attempts.  Marist won only four draw controls on the day but it did cause 10 Lehigh turnovers, led by Morgan Dillon who caused a game-high three.  Alyssa Littin sent back six shots in goal for the visitors and Jori Procaccini had Marist’s lone assist.

Two goals by Dykstra and another by Carmola gave Lehigh a 3-0 lead ten minutes into the game before Condon got Marist on the board at the 19:07 mark of the opening half.  Kramer then brought the Red Foxes within one with her score at the 17:05 mark, but Thomas scored on a free position shot for Lehigh to give the Brown and White a 4-2 advantage with 13:16 left before halftime.  That proved to be the Mountain Hawks final goal of the half however as the Red Foxes ran off four straight to surge in front 6-4 at intermission.  Marist’s final three goals came in the last 1:17 of the half.  “That was a letdown on our part,” Redfern said.  “They got two goals in transition there and those things do add up.”

Carmola opened the second half with her 17th goal of the season and Lehigh was within one at 6-5, but Kramer answered for the Red Foxes at the 14:43 mark to give them a 7-5 lead.  Kelly took a feed from Patterson and found the back of the net with 10:52 to play and Lehigh was again down one, but Marist had an answer yet again as Condon scored an unassisted goal with 8:02 remaining to make the score 8-6.

The Mountain Hawks had their chances down the stretch but sloppy play at times as well as several turnovers in difficult weather conditions prevented that from happening as Lehigh dropped its second straight contest.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, April 3 when the Mountain Hawks head to Buffalo, New York to take on Canisius.  The opening draw control is set for noon.
