BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off its third straight win on Saturday, the Lehigh women's basketball team looks to ride the momentum into its first road game of December as the Mountain Hawks (4-5) travel to Jersey City to face Saint Peter's on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip. It marks the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Saint Peter's, who compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Saturday's up-and-down win over Binghamton saw the Mountain Hawks jump out to a 36-18 lead, before eventually falling behind in the second half, but retaking the lead with 9:28 to go and holding on the rest of the way for their third straight victory. A high-scoring affair saw Lehigh lead, 43-36 at the half, this after beating Saint Joseph's by a 46-40 final in its previous game.
Senior Erica Prosser finished with six assists in the victory to leapfrog Hope Pellicane into fifth place on the Lehigh all-time assists list. She currently owns 397 career assists and will be looking to reach the 400 milestone on Tuesday.Ironically, junior Alexa Williams enters Tuesday with 397 career points as well, looking to reach the 400 mark in that category.
The Mountain Hawks used their three-point shooting on Saturday to jump out to an early lead, before again utilizing it to overtake Binghamton on their way to the 72-60 victory. Lehigh finished 13-for-27 (48 percent) from long range, its most made three-pointers since Dec. 20, 2008, when it made 15 in a win, also against Binghamton. Lehigh was led by senior Courtney Dentler, who hit 4-of-5 three-pointers, while senior Kristen Dalton hit 2-of-3, junior Aly Byorick and sophomore Kelly Peterson each hit 2-of-4, and Prosser drained 2-of-5.
Dentler and junior Emily Gratch, who have each enjoyed stellar seasons, currently stand 1-2 in the Patriot League in field goal percentage. In fact, they're the only two players in the league shooting better than 50 percent. Gratch has drained 52.1 percent of her shots (36-of-70), which includes only one made three-pointer (on three attempts). Dentler has enjoyed a well-rounded game, hitting 51.4 percent (36-of-70), including an incredible 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from three-point range, which is good for second in the league. Dentler is second on the team in scoring (11.8), while Gratch is third (11.0).
