Mountain Hawks row in Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following its season-opening weekend at the Head of the Charles, the Lehigh rowing team travels to Philadelphia to compete in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks will row in the Varsity Four, Freshmen Four, Varsity Eight and Freshmen Eight.
Lehigh opened its season last weekend where the women placed 30th in the Championship Eights and the men finished 33rd in the Collegiate Eights. Despite some struggles, head coach Brian Conley saw some positives he hopes to carry over into this weekend.
“The team has a desire to change the program around,” he said. “One of the biggest positives that we took from last week was that we were able to make changes throughout the race. What we need to improve upon is understanding what those changes are and making those changes together.”
The Schuylkill also marks the first time the entire Lehigh squad will race.
“It will be exciting for the freshmen,” said Conley. “It will be the first time that a lot of them will have ever raced in this sport. What we need to do in order to do better this weekend is become more consistent in our aggression throughout the race.”
Having competed in the season's first race last weekend will surely help come this Saturday.
“Having the one race under our belt allows us to understand what we need to do this weekend,” said Conley. “It also forces us to raise our abilities up a little bit more.”
The two-day Regatta runs Saturday and Sunday, but the Mountain Hawks will only compete on Saturday. The races begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and run until 3 p.m.
The Women's Freshmen Four is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. followed by the Men's Varsity Four (9:20), Women's Varsity Four (9:40), Men's Freshmen Eight (10:00) and Women's Freshmen Eight (10:20) in the morning. The Men's and Women's Varsity Eight will begin at 2:20 and 2:40 p.m., respectively. For the complete schedule of events, please click here.
