BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh Women’s lacrosse team has its hands full these days. With the 2009 fall semester in full swing, the young women are balancing their full load of class work in addition to daily practices and strength training sessions. Although the official season does not begin until February, the Mountain Hawks are hard at work on and off the field in preparation for the upcoming campaign. However, none of this stopped the young women from recently participating in a charity run in Allentown to raise awareness in the fight against women’s cancers. The inaugural Catherine Boulay Foundation “Fight like a Girl” 5K Run-Walk Family Fun Day was held on September 19th on Lehigh Valley Parkway and was attended by the entire team in addition to the coaching staff.
The team ran together and donned matching “Fight like a Girl” t-shirts for the event in recognition of the tremendous strength of women who courageously confront their cancer each and every day. Clearly, this team understands that confronting life’s trials ‘like a girl’ can be a pretty powerful thing. For their efforts, the women’s lacrosse team was recognized as the top fundraiser for the event.
The Catherine Boulay Foundation supports cancer patients and their families. Their mission is to provide cancer survivors and their caregivers with information on day-to-day living with...and beyond cancer. They understand that living with cancer is far more than understanding the medical issues related to the disease. All aspects of someone’s life - medical, social, spiritual, wellness, emotional, and many others - change drastically with a diagnosis of cancer and need to be addressed. Accurate, practical, accessible, and easy-to-understand language is the key to this mission. One of the foundation’s goals is to help cancer patients, caregivers, and survivors to connect with one another - to share their wisdom, joys, and concerns, and in doing so, to grow stronger and healthier individually and collectively.
