Dykstra advances in U.S. team tryout

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Rising junior Lauren Dykstra is one of 64 women’s lacrosse players from around the nation that have advanced to the second round of tryouts for the 2009-10 United States women’s developmental team. The first set of tryouts featured more than 150 players in the Stars & Stripes Division vying for spots for the U.S. team tryout, and took place over Memorial Day Weekend at Cedar Lane Sports Park in Bel Air, Maryland. Dykstra is one of two Patriot League student-athletes that made it through to the second round, and the New Jersey native will compete at the second round of tryouts on August 1-2, held on the campus of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
Dykstra was recently named to the 2009 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Mid-Atlantic Region First-Team, becoming Lehigh’s first All-Region selection since 1996. A business major, Dykstra garnered Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year honors this past season after scoring 67 goals and totaling 75 points, both of which rank among the nation’s leaders. Her 67 goals are the third most in a single season in school annals.
Dykstra was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week a league best four times in 2009 and she led the country in ground balls with 82. She scored six or more goals in three games, and netted at least one score in every game, but one. In addition, Dykstra led the Mountain Hawks in nine statistical categories, including shots, shots on goal, goals, points, ground balls, draw controls, game-winning goals, free-position goals, and caused turnovers.
