WORCESTER, Mass. – Lehigh dropped a heartbreaking 11-10 decision to Holy Cross in triple overtime on Saturday afternoon.  With the loss, the Mountain Hawks six-game winning streak is snapped and Lehigh falls to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League.  The Crusaders up their record to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the league following the win.  Sophomore Lauren Dykstra led Lehigh with four goals on the day, while Kelly Casey netted four scores for the home team.

Lehigh was credited with 25 shots for the game, led by Dykstra with seven and Inneke Carmola with six.  Sophomore Allison Thomas was the team leader in ground balls with five and she also won a team-high two draw controls.  Dykstra shared team high honors for caused turnovers with two, while junior Kelsy Ferris also caused two turnovers and stopped 11 shots in goal.

Holy Cross took 30 shots for the game, led by Med O’Leary’s seven.  Kat Sutton won five draw controls, while Annie Boylan won four and Casey and Lisa Gagne both forced a pair of turnovers.  Amy Martin stopped nine shots in goal for the Crusaders and O’Leary handed out a game-high six assists.

The game was tight throughout and went back-and-forth the entire way.  Lauren Murray gave Lehigh a 1-0 lead two minutes in, but O’Leary tied things at one two minutes later.  Senior Sara MacIntyre gave the lead back to Lehigh off a feed from Carmola, but Casey tied the game at two with 22:09 remaining in the first half.

Lehigh scored three straight times over a span of 12 minutes as Thomas, Dykstra and Carmola all found the back of the net to give the Brown and White a 5-2 lead, but two scored from Holy Cross, including one by Sutton with just 35 ticks left in the half sent the teams into intermission with Lehigh ahead 5-4.

Ali Baird opened the second half with a goal for the Crusaders, and Sutton gave the home team its first lead of the day with 22:59 on the clock.  The Mountain Hawks responded though with another 3-0 run as Dykstra scored twice and Carmola also scored, making it an 8-6 game with 11:04 to go.  Katie Gardner brought Holy Cross back to within one with a score of her own at the 8:50 mark, but Dykstra responded with yet another goal to give Lehigh another two-goal cushion.  The Mountain Hawks lead was not safe however, as O’Leary scored with 1:38 to go, and Casey found the back of the net with only 28 ticks to go, sending the teams into overtime.

In the extra session, Gardner scored first, giving Holy Cross a 10-9 lead, but MacIntyre answered and scored with just 12 seconds on the clock, knotting the score at ten and sending the teams into sudden victory.  Casey took a feed from O’Leary with exactly two minutes to play and beat Ferris however, sending Lehigh to its first loss since March 11.

Lehigh will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks head to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions.  The opening draw control is set for 3:00.
