BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second consecutive week and fourth time this season, sophomore Lauren Dykstra has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Dykstra scored ten goals in a pair of wins for Lehigh last week, including a 15-11 victory over Colgate on Saturday that clinched the number-two seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament for the Mountain Hawks. Dykstra’s four Offensive Player of the Week awards this season are the most of any player in the league.
Dykstra began the week with a four-goal, one-assist performance in Lehigh’s 14-9 victory over Monmouth on April 15 at home. The New Jersey native scored three of her goals in the first half as the Brown and White raced out to an 11-2 halftime lead. Dykstra also added three ground balls and two draw controls.
On Saturday, April 18 Dykstra exploded for six goals as Lehigh downed the Raiders 15-11 at home to earn its 11th victory of the season. The 11 wins for Lehigh are its most since the 1996 season. Dykstra scooped up six ground balls against Colgate, totaled three draw controls and caused five turnovers. It marked the third time this season she has scored at least six goals in a game.
For the year Dykstra has found the back of the net 64 times – which equals her total from last season. She leads Lehigh and ranks among the Patriot League leaders in goals, as well as points (72). Dykstra also paces the Brown and White in ground balls (78), draw controls (40), caused turnovers (27) and game-winning goals (six). For her career, Dykstra has scored 128 goals and accumulated 151 points.
Lehigh returns to action on Friday afternoon when the second-seeded Mountain Hawks open play in the 2009 Patriot League Tournament, held on the campus of Colgate University. Lehigh will take on the No. 3 seed Navy beginning at 2:00. All of the action will be broadcast live on Lehighsports.com.
