Two first place finishes highlight day two in N.J.

CAMDEN, N.J. – Lehigh finished action at the 2009 Knecht Cup on a soggy Saturday as five crews were in action, including the women’s varsity 8 and second varsity 8 and the men’s varsity 8, second varsity 8 and freshmen 8. The men’s varsity 8 and second varsity 8 won their petite finals, while the women’s second varsity 8 finished third in the petite final.
The women’s varsity 8 placed third in the third level final, crossing in a time of 7:32.5, which placed the Brown and White ahead of Temple, West Virginia and Duquesne. Villanova won the race with a time of 7:26.3. The second varsity 8 finished in 7:57.2, good for third place in the petite final, ahead of Villanova, Duquesne and New Hampshire. Boston College crossed first in a time of 7:43.0.
The men’s varsity 8 bested crews from Loyola, Delaware, Drexel, Boston College and Philadelphia University to claim first place in the petite final, with a time of 6:21.2, while the second varsity 8 crossed in 6:59.1 to defeat Drexel, Boston College and Rochester in its race and earn first place. The men’s freshmen 8 placed fourth in the petite final, with a time of 4:49.4, which placed the Mountain Hawks in front of Lafayette and Boston College. Marietta won the race with a time of 4:40.1.
Lehigh will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 when the Mountain Hawks host the annual River Cup in Allentown at the Steiner/Steinberg Boathouse. Action gets underway at 9:00 AM.
