WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Lehigh went toe-to-toe with ACC member Boston College on Sunday evening before falling 11-10.  The Mountain Hawks tied the game at 10 on a Kelly Draper goal with 6:24 remaining, but BC’s Jenna McCabe scored the game-winner for the Eagles with just over five minutes remaining.  Lehigh’s Lauren Dykstra had one final shot to send the game into overtime, but her shot was saved by Eagles’ goal keeper Katie Monaghan as time expired.  With the loss Lehigh falls to 2-1, while Boston College remains unbeaten at 3-0.

Both teams unleashed 27 shots on Sunday, while Lehigh scooped up 14 ground balls compared to BC’s 12.  Dykstra led the Brown and White with four ground balls, while Dykstra and Sara MacIntyre both won three draw controls.  In goal for the Mountain Hawks junior Kelsy Ferris stopped seven Eagles shots, while senior captain Sarah Fudin caused three turnovers on defense.

Jill Rekart and Emily Hannigan both totaled three ground balls for BC, while Maura Mahoney and McCabe won a pair of draw controls.  Monaghan finished with nine saves in goal for the Eagles and Lauren Fitzpatrick led the Eagles with a pair of caused turnovers.

Lauren Costello opened the scoring with a goal at the 27:07 mark of the first half for BC, but Inneke Carmola tied things at one for Lehigh less than a minute later.  The Eagles went in front 2-1, but MacIntyre answered for the Mountain Hawks to knot the score at two with 21:54 left before halftime.  Lehigh would score only one more time before intermission as Carmola netted her second goal of the day, but BC’s offense was relentless netting five more scores to take a 7-3 lead at the break.

Fitzpatrick began the second half with another Eagles goal to push their lead to five at 8-3, but Carmola stopped the BC run with her third score of the day at the 28:09 mark.  The Eagles responded with two more goals to take a 10-4 lead with just over 23 minutes remaining and appeared as though they may run away with the game, but Lehigh never stopped fighting.

Carmola began the Mountain Hawks run with goal number four, while MacIntyre netted her second score of the game less than two minutes later, to make it a 10-6 game.  Draper netted her first score of the day with 16:25 left to pull the Brown and White within 10-7, while Meagan Tenety got into the act six minutes later to make the score 10-8.  Allison Thomas then scored on a free position shot with 7:35 remaining to pull Lehigh within one, and Draper tied the game at 10 with 6:24 on the clock setting up the dramatic finish.  McCabe gave the lead back to the Eagles one final time with just over five minutes to go, but Lehigh had its chances down the stretch to tie the score, including Dykstra’s final shot as time expired.

Lehigh is back in action on Saturday, March 7 when the Mountain Hawks open Patriot League play versus the Bucknell Bison at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  The opening draw control is set for 1:00 and live video of the contest will be shown at Lehighsports.com.
