Oudin announces Peel as new assistant coach

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin has announced the addition of Stephanie Peel to the Mountain Hawks program as an assistant coach for the 2006 season. Peel comes to Lehigh from Arizona State University, where she most recently served as a student assistant coach following an impressive playing career for the Sun Devils.

“It’s great for us to bring someone like Stephanie into our program,” said Oudin, the three-time reigning Patriot League Coach of the Year. “She brings impressive credentials and a wealth of experience. It will be nice to have somebody new to the staff who can bring a different perspective and help us towards our goal of winning a championship.”

Peel was a four year starter for Arizona State, serving as a team captain as a senior in 2004. She started every game of her college career and served as the defensive anchor of a Sun Devil team that earned two NCAA bids in her tenure. Peel was also an accomplished performer in the classroom, where she was a four-time Maroon and Gold Scholar Athlete and a three-time member of the All-Pac 10 academic team. She earned her degree in secondary education with an emphasis in English in December, 2005. Peel spent the 2005 season as a student assistant coach while completing her degree.

“From my time around the team thus far, I can tell that we have a great group of girls that love to play soccer,” Peel said. “I’m looking forward to working with them and helping to take this team to the next level.”

Peel joins a Mountain Hawks team that is coming off its most successful season in school history in 2005. Lehigh won a school record 14 games en route to sharing its first ever Patriot League regular season championship. The Mountain Hawks allowed the fewest goals in all of Division I women’s soccer and also led the nation in team goals-against average and save percentage.

A native of Plano, Texas, Peel was also a member of the 2001-02 under-19 national team pool. While working with the women’s soccer program she will also be pursuing her Masters in secondary education.
