Lehigh looks strong in scrimmage

Bethlehem, PA – The Lehigh women's soccer team took the field Tuesday, August 20 for its first preseason scrimmage of the season. The squad faced Fairfield and was victorious 1-0 as Hedy Kishel scored the lone goal. Sophomores Erin Iwaskiewicz and Ruth Solomon split time in net to earn the shutout.
"I am pleased with our effort," said head coach Oudin, set to enter his first season. "We focused on defense during our first week of camp but now we have to shift to our offense. We had chances to score and could not convert. I do not want to miss those opportunities during the regular season."
Natasha Taylor was strong defensively as well for the Mountain Hawks. Taylor and the defensive unit held the Stags to less than five shots on goal.
Throughout camp Lehigh has escaped the injury bug. Coach Oudin is also happy with the way his team has been able to stay healthy. "We've had the typical injuries, but nothing that will threaten the season for anyone," he said.
Iwaskiewicz is the favorite for the starting goalkeeper position while Christine Banda, Lauren Day, and Natasha Taylor have been selected to be the 2002 team captains.
The Mountain Hawks have another scrimmage Friday at 10:00 a.m. vs. Stony Brook. Lehigh will open its season on August 30 at the Farleigh Dickinson Kickoff Classic vs. Seton Hall.
