The Mountain Hawks travel to
Despite winning its last four duals by an average margin of 33-6 Lehigh dropped one spot to No. 15 in the latest NWCA/USA Today coaches poll. The Mountain Hawks still have seven individual wrestlers ranked. Senior Travis Frick moved up a couple spots to No. 15 at 174, while the Brown and White also hope to have senior Troy Letters back in the lineup soon at 165. Letters has not wrestled since the Southern Scuffle in late December, but is still ranked third nationally at 165.
Army enters tonight’s dual with an 8-3-2 record and an unblemished 6-0 mark against the EIWA. Last weekend the Black Knights finished second to Navy in the eight team All-Academy championships. Army won four individual titles in the tournament. Army currently does not have anyone ranked nationally, but the Black Knights do have seven wrestlers ranked within the EIWA. Senior 149 pound grappler Patrick Simpson serves as team captain.
Lehigh leads the all-time series with the Black Knights. The Mountain Hawks have won 12 in a row over Army and are undefeated in 14 meetings dating back to 1991. Lehigh is a perfect 10-0 against Army under head coach Greg Strobel. This year’s match marks the 60th consecutive year that Lehigh and Army have battled on the mat.
The Mountain Hawks have had tremendous success against both Army and Navy in recent years, sweeping the two academies in nine consecutive seasons. Lehigh already has a win against Navy this year and is 20-1 versus the academies under Greg Strobel, with the lone loss coming to Navy in January, 1996.
