Lehigh has a busy week on the mats this weekend, with the first three EIWA matches of the season on Friday and Saturday. Friday night the Mountain Hawks travel to Annapolis for a dual against Navy, and then return home to Stabler Arena for a pair of matches against Brown and Harvard.
Lehigh is on the crest of a five match win streak, with three victories at the Virginia Duals book ended by wins over Pittsburgh and Hofstra. The Mountain Hawks will use its seven nationally ranked full-time starters in their effort to extend the streak. Junior All-American Jon Trenge leads the way with his No. 2 ranking at 197. Freshman Troy Letters, at 165, leads a group of four ranked Lehigh freshmen. Letters has only lost once in his brief collegiate career and is ranked as high as No. 3. Classmates Cory Cooperman and Derek Zinck are also ranked in the top ten at their weights, as is junior Brad Dillon. Zinck is rated No. 7 at 157, Cooperman stands in at No. 8 at 133, while Dillon is No. 8 or 9. Also in the rankings are freshman Travis Frick, ranked as high as No. 11 at 184, and heavyweight Joe Sahl, who can be found as high as No. 15 in his division.
Navy will send a single ranked man to try to stop Lehigh. The Amateur Wrestling News ranks Frank Edwards No. 18 at 165. Ranked men on the mats for Brown include No. 11 Clint Frease at 141 and Nick Ciarcia, ranked as high as No. 20 at 184. The Crimson have only one ranked man on the roster, but whoever Lehigh sends to face No. 3 Jesse Jantzen at 149 will have his hands full.
The Brown match will be Lehigh’s first at home since the Sheridan Duals, some 49 days before.
The Navy match is set to begin at 7:00 Friday night. Brown comes to Stabler Arena for a 1:00 start and will be followed at 3:00 by Harvard. The Harvard dual can be heard live on both the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu and on 1230 AM, The Sports Monster. The match will also be televised live on Service Electric Cable TV-2 and will be re-broadcast on Sunday at 1:00 on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and on DirecTV channel 628.
