Lehigh held its annual Lewis Wrestling dinner Tuesday, April 16th in the Wood dining room located in Iaccoca Hall. The night began with a reception before moving on to the traditional dinner of chicken and waffles, followed by eggs and ham. Before each senior took a moment to reflect on their careers at Lehigh, three wrestlers recognized for their efforts this season.
Senior Rob Rohn received the outstanding athlete award. The award is given to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. Rohn gave Lehigh its first NCAA title since 1990 and led the team to a 7th place finish at the 2002 National Championships. Rohn is the first Lehigh wrestler to ever win the Gorrarian Award for recording the most pins in the least amount of time at the NCAA Championships. Rohn pinned four opponents in 13:28 to edge out teammate Jon Trenge for the award.
Senior Troy Minarovic was named the scholar-athlete of year, awarded to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Minarovic, a biology major, boasts an impressive 3.98 cumulative GPA and plans to attend medical school upon graduation in June.
The coach's award was presented to senior Chris Vitale. The coach's award is awarded to the individual who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership. Vitale, a tri-captain earned an outstanding 27-5 record in his senior season.
