Lehigh travels to Navy on Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks return to the road on Wednesday, traveling to Navy for a 7 p.m. game. Lehigh recorded back-to-back losses against Patriot League opponents for the first time this season, with two home losses against Holy Cross and American. On Saturday against American, the Mountain Hawks allowed the Eagles to shoot 48.9 percent, the highest the Brown and White have allowed all season, while shooting just 28.1 percent from the floor, and 13.6 percent from three-point range. Tricia Smith led Lehigh in almost every category, recording 17 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and four steals.

The Midshipmen started off the second half of league play with a 65-50 loss at Bucknell. Navy was led offensively by Cassie Consedine with 14 points and six rebounds, while Kalen Kropa added 13 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Navy has picked up one win in the Patriot League this season, a 64-49 victory over Colgate. Consedine leads the Midshipmen in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (8.4 rpg), blocks (57) and three-point percentage (.324). Of Navy’s 23 games, Consedine has led the team in scoring 14 times and rebounding 18 times. She also has a league leading nine double-doubles.

Navy leads the all-time series 20-18, including 17-16 in Patriot League regular season contests. Lehigh won this season’s previous meeting, 55-53, with the Midshipmen taking the five meetings before that. The last time the Mountain Hawks won at Alumni Hall, was 2004, a 77-53 victory. The Brown and White are 7-11 all-time against Navy on the road, including 7-9 in Patriot League games.

In this season’s previous meeting, Navy trailed by two points with two seconds remaining, when Kristen Bowen stepped to the free throw line with a one-and-one opportunity and the chance to the tie the game. Bowen missed her first shot, and the ensuing rebound was grabbed by Kaela Pearce, as the Mountain Hawks were able to hold onto a 55-53 victory, to improve to 2-0 in Patriot League play.
