Lehigh and Lafayette set to renew rivalry

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In perhaps one of the most highly anticipated match-ups of the rivalry, the first place Mountain Hawks (12-7, 4-0) and the second place Leopards (11-8, 3-1) meet for the 69th time on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Easton, Pa. The winner of this game will gain the upper hand in the standings and the inside track to one of the top seeds for the Patriot League Tournament. The Brown and White’s most recent win came Wednesday at Colgate, a 67-37 decision. The Mountain Hawks forced 22 steals and 32 turnovers, while holding the Raiders to just 16 second-half points. Alex Ross and Kaela Pearce led all players with 14 points apiece, while Melissa Rich chipped in with 10 points and a game high nine rebounds.

The Leopards are coming off a dramatic 64-58 overtime victory over Bucknell on the road Wednesday. Vanessa Van De Venter and Cristin Zavocki had 15 points each for Lafayette, who was a perfect nine-for-nine from the free throw line in overtime. The Leopards lone league loss of the season came in the league opener at Holy Cross in overtime.

The Leopards lead the all-time series 38-30, but Lehigh has a 19-15 edge in Patriot League contests. The teams split the season series last year, with each team winning on its home court. The home team is 40-23 all-time, with Lafayette winning four of five neutral site games. The Mountain Hawks last win at Kirby Sports Center came in 2004-05, a 58-48 victory.
