Mountain Hawks in search of 12th win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh looks to make it six straight wins and five in a row on the road, when the first place Mountain Hawks travel to Colgate, Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Brown and White most recently defeated Army, 59-57 in overtime on Saturday. It was a battle of two of the top teams in the Patriot League and Lehigh won the game on a pair of free throws by Melissa Rich in final seconds of overtime. Rich ended the game with 10 points and six rebounds, and was six-of-ten from the line. Alex Ross provided the spark in overtime, hitting her fifth three-pointer of the game in the opening minute of the extra period, en route to a game high 17 points. The last time the Mountain Hawks were in sole possession of first place this late into the season, was 2003-04, when they also started the year off 3-0, en route to winning nine league games.

Colgate has struggled all season, winning just one game, and is in the midst of a 13-game losing streak. In their last game, the Raiders lost to American, 88-58, allowing the Eagles to hit 21-of-29 shots in the second half, for their first league win. Shevorne Martin had a team high 16 points for Colgate, while Caitlin Gillard and Krista Moser had 15 and 14 points respectively.

The current series is tied 21-21, with Lehigh taking the last three meetings. Last year marked the first time the Mountain Hawks have swept the season series since 2000-01. Colgate’s last win came on February 1, 2006, a 71-69 victory in overtime at Cotterell Court. The Mountain Hawks are 7-12 all-time in Hamilton, N.Y., while the Raiders are just 9-13 at Stabler Arena.
