BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks are coming off their first win of the season Saturday night, with a 46-33 win over the Fordham Rams. Both teams struggled to find the net, as neither team shot above .350 for the game, and the Rams registered the lowest point total by a Lehigh opponent since Florida A&M was held to 28 points in 1980.
Kaela Pearce led Lehigh offensively with a game high 13 points, including three-of-three from beyond the arc. Freshman Erica Prosser chipped in with a career high 12 points, with six of those points coming in the final minute, all on free throws. Tricia Smith added six points, a career high nine rebounds and three steals in 32 minutes of action. The win was the first in school history for Lehigh over Fordham, who had taken the previous 12 meetings between the former Patriot League rivals.
The Tigers lost back-to-back games last weekend to Delaware State and Samford, as part of the Preseason WNIT. The Hornets came away with a 63-62 overtime win on Saturday night, with Ashlee Burbage scoring the winning basket with just two seconds to play. Meagan Cowher led all players with 24 points, shooting 10-of-20 from the field. Whitney Downs added nine points, coming off two three-pointers and Addie Mercer had another 12 points and eight rebounds. The last time Princeton started a season 0-4 was 2000-01, when the Tigers finished the year at 2-25, their worst finish in school history.
Princeton leads the all-time series 12-8, with the Tigers taking the past two meetings. Lehigh’s last win came in 2004, a 64-51 win at Stabler Arena. The last time the Mountain Hawks won in Princeton, was 2003, with Lehigh escaping with a 56-53 victory. The home team is 14-6 all-time in the series, with Princeton recording eight home wins and Lehigh with six.
