Lehigh visits rival Lafayette on Saturday

Lehigh visits rival Lafayette Saturday afternoon in the 63rd meeting between the two schools. The Mountain Hawks will be attempting to get back on track after Wednesday’s home loss to Bucknell. Although Lehigh limited the Bison to just 58 points, the Mountain Hawks struggled mightily from the floor, connecting on just 27% of their shot attempts. For the second straight game, however, two Lehigh players managed to record double-doubles. This time, it was senior Jenny Callan (13 points, 17 rebounds) and junior Adrienne Blount (18 points, 15 rebounds).

Saturday afternoon’s opponent, Lafayette, is attempting to win its first Patriot League game of the season. Thanks to Thursday night’s win over Penn (a team that defeated Lehigh earlier this season), the Leopards have already matched their win total from a season ago.

Saturday’s game marks the 63rd all-time meeting between Lehigh and Lafayette in women’s basketball. The Leopards lead the all-time series between these two schools, 34-28, though the Mountain Hawks have captured ten of the last eleven contests. Lehigh is 7-3 against the Leopards under head coach Sue Troyan at Kirby Sports Center. Not surprisingly, Lehigh has battled Lafayette more than any other team in women’s hoops action.

Lehigh has not fared particularly well in close contests this season. The Mountain Hawks are just 2-6 in games decided by eight points or fewer. Lehigh is 0-3 in games decided by 1, 2, or 3 points.

Saturday afternoon’s contest tips off at 4:00 pm, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 beginning at 3:30 pm. As always, the radio broadcast can be heard live on-line at Lehighsports.com, with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
