Lehigh welcomes Virginia Commonwealth to Stabler Arena for a Sunday matinee in the Mountain Hawks’ final game before the final exams break. The Mountain Hawks will be looking to build some momentum entering the break, while stopping a season-long three-game slide in the process. Last time out, the Mountain Hawks struggled mightily from the field in a 24-point loss at Binghamton on Thursday night. Lehigh failed to hit a three-pointer for the first time this season. Despite the setback, senior captain Jenny Callan recorded her third consecutive double-double for the Mountain Hawks.
Over the course of its last three games, the Mountain Hawks are shooting just 36% from the field, and a frigid 11-of-39 from beyond the three-point arc (28.2%). Lehigh is even uncharacteristically struggling from the free throw line, knocking down only 61% of its attempts from the stripe. During this losing streak, the Mountain Hawks are averaging just 56.3 points per game.
Meanwhile, the Rams enter Sunday’s game looking to rebound from a five-point setback at East Carolina on Wednesday night. Three VCU players scored in double figures that night, including a double-double from Quanitra Hollingsworth, but the Rams turned the ball over 26 times.
Virginia Commonwealth leads the all-time series between these two schools, 3-0. In the only previous meeting at Stabler Arena, the Rams earned a 93-63 win over the Mountain Hawks in the 2001-02 season. VCU’s average margin of victory in the three prior match-ups has been 17 points.
The Lehigh-VCU game tips off at 2:05 pm from Stabler Arena in Bethlehem on Sunday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased at the arena box office on game day. The game will not be televised, but it can be heard live on WLVR-FM (91.3) in the Lehigh Valley, and worldwide on the Lehigh web site at lehighsports.com, with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
