Lehigh visits Binghamton for its final road contest in 2005. The Mountain Hawks enter Thursday night’s game looking to stop a two-game slide after dropping a pair of games in the Mission Management & Trust Fiesta Bowl Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson last weekend. Despite the two setbacks in the win column, several Mountain Hawks played well. Senior captain Jenny Callan posted two double-doubles in being named to the all-tournament team, and Sara Ellis (23.5 points per game) along with Claire Sullivan (9.5 assists) posted solid tournament efforts.
Trailing by a bucket last time out with 1.1 seconds remaining, sophomore guard Kaela Pearce raced up the left side, grabbing a rebound off a missed shot, and putting the ball back in after a kiss off the glass as time expired, apparently tying the game vs. Tulane (Dec. 4). However, officials on the court ruled that Pearce’s putback attempt came after the horn sounded at Arizona’s McKale Center, handing Lehigh a difficult 65-63 loss to the Green Wave. There was no courtside television monitor available to review the play.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats look to scratch their way back into the win column Thursday after a five point loss at Morehead State on Saturday. Senior Rachel Laws posted a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds for Binghamton on the evening.
The Lehigh-Binghamton series is tied at two wins apiece. All four games have been won by the home team, and Thursday night marks the first-ever meeting between the two teams at Events Center. Binghamton was 2-0 against the Mountain Hawks in its former home, West Gym. Lehigh has never won in Vestal.
Thursday’s game tips off at 7:00 pm from Events Center on the Binghamton University campus in Vestal, N.Y.
