Lehigh welcomes Brown to Stabler in home opener

Lehigh hits the Stabler Arena hardwood for the first time this season, as the Mountain Hawks welcome the Brown Bears to Bethlehem on Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks are looking to recover from a tough 76-73 overtime loss at Penn on Friday night. Three Lehigh players scored in double figures on the night, led by 20 from Patriot League preseason player of the year Sara Ellis. But the Mountain Hawks let an 11-point second half lead slip away, and the Quakers rallied for the win.

Meanwhile, the Bears look for their second straight road victory following a ten-point triumph at Fairfield on Friday. Brown built a 20-point second half lead in that game, and had to hang on for the win. Senior Sarah Hayes led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds in the win.

LU is looking for its second straight win in its home opener, following a victory over Princeton in 2004-05.

Brown leads the all-time series between these two schools, 7-3. Lehigh hasn’t defeated the Bears since a 75-69 victory in Providence in 1989. Last time the two teams met at Stabler, the Bears posted a 78-73 win over the Mountain Hawks in January, 2004.

Sunday’s game tips off at 1:05, and the contest will be televised live on Service Electric 2 Sports and lehighsports.com. The broadcast will air on a delayed basis nationally on FCS Atlantic on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00. Sunday’s live radio coverage begins at 12:45 on Sunday afternoon with Steve Lomangino.
