Mountain Hawks to tip-off season Friday at Penn

Lehigh opens its 32nd season Friday night as the Mountain Hawks visit Penn at the famed Palestra. The Mountain Hawks, who won 19 games a season ago, have four new faces on the roster after the departure of five to graduation. Senior Jenny Callan, the lone senior on the squad, is the Mountain Hawks leading returning rebounder, averaging nearly six rebounds per game a year ago. Junior sharpshooter Sara Ellis scored 14 points per game last season, earning Patriot League preseason player of the year honors. Meanwhile, the Quakers return two starters from last year’s 15-12 team, led by senior center Jennifer Fleischer who averaged a double-double (10.8 points, 10.6 rebounds) for the season a year ago. She scored eight, pulled down eight rebounds, and had two assists, two steals and a block in the win at Lehigh on Jan. 18.As a team, Penn finished fourth in the Ivy League. Penn leads the all-time series between the two schools, 15 games to 11. The last Mountain Hawks’ win came in 1998, as Lehigh topped Penn 71-62. Penn has won the last five meetings in the series.
