Lehigh, Colgate to square off in PL semifinal action
3/4/2005 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Survive, and advance. That’s the mindset in postseason play, and Saturday’s Patriot League semifinal match-up pits a pair of teams against one another that have experienced that mantra already in the 2005 Patriot League postseason. Lehigh got a game-winning bucket from senior captain Jessica DePalo with just 0.4 seconds remaining to survive a scare from No. 7 Bucknell on Thursday, as Lehigh earned a 54-52 win. DePalo and junior Jenny Callan each registered double-doubles for the Mountain Hawks for the second straight game. Meanwhile, Colgate, the sixth seed, built a 26-point second half lead over No. 3 Army on Thursday, and then had to hold on for a 78-75 win in the first quarterfinal at Stabler Arena. Four Raiders hit for double figures in the win. Lehigh and Colgate met twice during the regular season, with each team earning a win on its home floor. The winner of Saturday’s game moves on to the Patriot League championship contest, to be played on Wednesday night on the home floor of the highest remaining seed. Lehigh and Colgate’s last meeting in the postseason came in 2001, in the Patriot League semifinal. Lehigh won that game by 21 points, advancing to the championship game at Holy Cross.
