Lehigh set to host unbeaten Holy Cross on Sunday

Lehigh wraps up a brief two-game stay at home as the Mountain Hawks host Holy Cross on Sunday in a battle between the first and second place teams in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks are 8-2 in league play for the first time thanks to Friday night’s 19-point win over Army. Sara Ellis and Jessica DePalo each scored 16 in the Lehigh win.

Meanwhile, the Crusaders remained perfect in league play with their tenth straight victory - a 68-62 win at Lafayette on Friday night. Maggie Fontana poured in 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the win. Holy Cross enters Sunday’s contest with a 15-8 overall record and a perfect 10-0 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders have reeled off ten straight wins since the beginning of league play. They rank second (behind Lehigh) in field goal percentage, while pacing the league at the free throw line, shooting at an impressive 75% clip as a team. Senior center Lisa Andrews leads the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game, while Brittany Keil is the leading rebounder at 5.3 boards per contest.

If Lehigh defeats Holy Cross Sunday and Colgate falls to American in Washington, the Mountain Hawks (16-7, 8-2 P.L.) will clinch a top two finish in the league standings by virtue of a four-game lead over the Raiders with only three games remaining. At the end of the regular season, the top two seeds earn the right to host the first two rounds of the league’s postseason tournament on their respective home floors.

In the previous meeting last month, the Crusaders eeked out a three-point win over Lehigh in a see-saw affair in Worcester. Holy Cross has dominated the all-time series between the two schools, winning 30 of the 34 previous meetings. However, Lehigh has split with the Crusaders in each of the last three seasons. Three years ago, the Mountain Hawks won a double-overtime thriller at Stabler Arena. In 2003, Lehigh ended Holy Cross’ 55-game home league winning streak. Last year, the Mountain Hawks never trailed in the Hart Center win.
