Mountain Hawks play host to Binghamton Saturday

Following a 12-day lay-off for final exams, the Mountain Hawks return to the court to play host to Binghamton at Stabler Arena. Lehigh is off to its best start since the 2000-2001 season with a 4-2 mark. Saturday’s game, though, presents unfamiliar surroundings, as the Mountain Hawks play inside the STAR for just the second time this season.

Senior captain Jessica DePalo has paced Lehigh early on this season, as she leads the league in scoring (19 points per game) and field goals made (48). Junior Jenny Callan is the top shooter in the league, sinking 70.4% of her shot attempts from the field.

Meanwhile, the Bearcats look to turn things around with a road victory. Binghamton’s lone win in 2004-05 was a 25-point thumping of Marshall on November 27. That victory came just one week after the Thundering Herd downed Lehigh. The Bearcats are 0-3 on the road this season.

Binghamton has been led by the play of guard Rachel Laws. The junior is averaging 15.3 points per contest, and was named the America East Conference co-Player of the Week.

Binghamton leads the series between these two teams, two games to one. All three games have been won by the home team, with both teams winning games in 2001. The Bearcats captured the first-ever meeting between these two schools with an 18-point win at West Gym in February. The following season, Lehigh topped Binghamton 67-60 at Stabler Arena in December. The 2002 meeting, scheduled for Dec. 5 in Vestal, was cancelled due to an east coast snowstorm. The Bearcats bested Lehigh at West Gym last December.

Saturday’s game tips off at 7:05 pm at Stabler Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley (1230 and 1320 AM), beginning at 6:55 pm. That broadcast will also air on lehighsports.com with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
