Rigney and Flores join Lehigh coaching staff

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh head coach Sue Troyan has announced the hiring of Glenn Rigney and Milena Flores to join the women’s basketball coaching staff. Rigney and Flores replace Jim Sexton and Tempie Brown, who departed for Northwestern University last month. Rigney and Flores, along with second year assistant Lindsay Davis, round out the coaching staff for 2004-05 under Troyan.

Glenn Rigney comes to Lehigh after spending the past three seasons as an assistant within the Patriot League. Last season, he helped lead the American University Eagles to the Patriot League championship for the first time in school history. Rigney was an assistant at Navy for two years prior to working at American, concentrating on the team’s defensive play.

Prior to his stint at Navy, Rigney spent 16 seasons at the high school level. In eight years at Maclay School in Tallahassee, Florida, Rigney led his squad to the postseason in seven consecutive campaigns. Rigney attended the University of Miami.

Rigney worked with American’s post players a season ago, and he will focus his efforts in a similar capacity at Lehigh.

“Coach Rigney brings a wealth of knowledge to our program, strong teaching abilities, a strong
understanding of recruiting and the types of student-athletes we are targeting at our level,” said Lehigh coach Sue Troyan, set to enter her tenth season. “He possesses a high level of knowledge regarding our league and league opponents, and a strong sense for the values we hold within the Patriot League, and in particular, at Lehigh.”

Milena Flores joins the Mountain Hawks staff after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. There, she worked with the guards while coordinating the team’s academic support program and the summer conditioning plan.

Flores graduated from Stanford in 2001, playing in every game during her four year career as a point guard. She was a member of the 1997 Cardinal team that appeared in the Final Four. Upon completion of her collegiate career, Flores spent two seasons as a guard on the WNBA’s Miami (Fla.) Sol.

At Lehigh, Flores will work with the Mountain Hawks’ guards. “Coach Flores brings a great wealth of knowledge about the game to our program, having competed at the highest levels in a variety of settings,” Troyan points out. “She is an extremely intelligent young woman with a great work ethic and a strong desire to be successful in everything she does. She will bring a lot of great qualities to our program and staff.”

The Mountain Hawks return nine letterwinners – including two all-league selections – from last season’s team that reached the Patriot League tournament semifinals for the first time since 2001.
