Junior captain Jessica DePalo captured the Athlete of the Year award. The Athlete of the Year award is presented to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. DePalo led the Patriot League in scoring at 18.9 points per game, and she set new Lehigh school records for points (549) and field goals (232) in a single season. Senior Teniece Johnson was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Scholar-Athlete award goes to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his/her teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Johnson will graduate next month with a 3.43 grade point average as a marketing major (with a minor in Africana studies). As a team, Lehigh ranked sixth in Division I last year with a cumulative 3.42 GPA. Sophomore Jenny Callan won the Coaches Award at the banquet. The Coaches Award is presented to the individual who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. Callan battled through a tough back injury, and, by season’s end, earned a spot in Lehigh’s starting lineup as one of the most improved players on the team. Next year, the Mountain Hawks return nine letterwinners from a team that tied for second place in the league in 2003-04, tying a school record for league wins in the process.
