Lehigh basketball to join wrestling on ESPN Radio

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh Athletics and Nassau Broadcasting have announced that, beginning in the fall of 2004, Lehigh football, basketball, and wrestling broadcasts can be heard on two Nassau properties in the Lehigh Valley. The agreement calls for all Mountain Hawks football and men’s basketball games, all wrestling dual meets, and up to 15 women’s basketball games to air on WEEX-AM (1230) and WYNS-AM (1160), more commonly known as The Sports Monster, ESPN Radio.
“We’re very excited about our newly-expanded partnership with Nassau Broadcasting,” said Glenn Hofmann, Lehigh’s Associate Athletics Director. “We have enjoyed working with them in recent years [on Lehigh wrestling broadcasts] and look forward to strengthening a relationship that is mutually beneficial to both parties.”
For the past seven years, Lehigh football and men’s basketball games have aired on WKAP-AM (1470). Women’s basketball contests have been broadcast on WLVR-FM (91.3) – Lehigh’s student station – for a number of years. Now those three sports will join Lehigh wrestling on the Sports Monster, home to Mountain Hawks wrestling excitement for the past four seasons. All Lehigh women’s games will still air on WLVR, with several being simulcast on The Sports Monster. The agreement includes promotional considerations, and the possibility for Nassau to add up to five (5) additional events per academic year. The Sports Monster will also produce and air a one-hour show each week dedicated solely to Lehigh Athletics that will be hosted by Sports Monster Program Director Tom Fallon. Lehigh Athletics broadcasts have always been among the most valuable AM sports properties in the Lehigh Valley, with Mountain Hawks football ratings consistently doubling those of Penn State football broadcasts in the area. “We’re very happy to be further identified with an institution at the center of the Lehigh Valley, in more than a physical location,” said Pat Lincoln, Station Manager for both WEEX and WYNS. “Their strong alumni group and passionate fans are a perfect fit for our programming.” The station switch will not affect Lehigh’s well-renowned broadcast teams, to which fans have grown accustomed. Matt Kerr and Marty Horn will still broadcast Lehigh football, while Greg Falkenbach will sit courtside with Kerr for men’s basketball games. Jeff Tourial will still broadcast Lehigh women’s basketball, and broadcast veteran Ross Nunamaker will keep fans in tune with the bout-by-bout drama of Lehigh wrestling. Tom Fallon, a household name in Lehigh Valley sports broadcasting, will add perspective as a member of the broadcast teams. For fans outside the Sports Monster/Lehigh Valley listening area, Mountain Hawks contests will still be available on Lehigh’s web site at lehighsports.com with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports. The Lehigh-Nassau partnership officially kicks off on September 4, when the Lehigh football team opens its season against Siena at Goodman Stadium.
