Christmas City Classic returns to Bethlehem

Lehigh wraps up 2003 by hosting the seventh annual Christmas City Classic at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks (1-7, 0-0 Patriot) enter the tournament in search of their first win since December 3rd. Lehigh has been paced by the play of junior co-captain Jessica DePalo, who leads the team at over 14 points and eight rebounds per game. In Lehigh’s last outing against Binghamton on December 20, DePalo became the first Lehigh player since 1985 to block five shots in a game. The Mountain Hawks first round opponent, the Thundering Herd of Marshall, is 7-1 on the season. They are 2-0 away from home, including a win at Texas A&M last time out. The Thundering Herd have won four of their games by 20 or more points, and they have been led by four players averaging eight or more points per game. Catie Knable is averaging a double-double at 8.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. The other first round match-up pits Ole Miss (5-5) against Mount St. Mary’s (2-5). Lehigh has never faced the Lady Rebels, and the Mountain Hawks are 1-4 all-time against the Mountaineers. The Ole Miss-Mount St. Mary’s game kicks off the tournament at 1:00 on Tuesday afternoon. Lehigh and Marshall will follow at 3:30. The tournament concludes on Wednesday, with the consolation game taking place at 1 pm, and the championship game tipping off at 3:30.
