Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh’s women’s basketball program has announced its incoming class for the 2003-2004 season. Three newcomers join a Mountain Hawks squad that returns 11 letterwinners from last year’s team – a team that won a school record nine Patriot League games. Guards Adrienne Blount, Sara Ellis, and Emily Geosits join the Mountain Hawks as they pursue a Patriot League title. “Sara has the ability to step into our program and make an immediate impact with her offensive abilities,” Troyan predicts. “A guard with a scorer’s mentality, Sara can shoot the three from deep range. She has a strong handle on the game, and is an excellent passer.” Emily Geosits (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) rounds out the trio. The local standout had a memorable career at nearby Emmaus High School, where she was an All-East Penn Conference selection and a member of the Morning Call’s all-area squad. “Emily will play at both the shooting guard and the wing position this year” Troyan says. “She has the ability to step into our program and contribute right away with her ability to score. A perimeter shooter who has the ability to light it up from three-point range, Emily is a pure shooter who can put points on the board.” Lehigh opens its season at home on Friday, November 21, when the Mountain Hawks play host to Duquesne. Tip-off from Stabler Arena is set for 5:30.
Adrienne Blount (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) comes to Lehigh and looks to regain her stellar form on the court after missing her senior season due to a torn ACL. Blount was a two-time all-state selection at Mahopac.
“Adrienne may be the most athletic guard in the freshman class,” said Lehigh head coach Sue Troyan, set to enter her ninth season. “She possesses a strong scoring ability, and the capability to shoot off the pass and be a strong threat off the dribble. Adrienne has great speed and strength, and is a great rebounder. We will look for her to play a big role in what we are trying to accomplish.”
Sara Ellis (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) will also attempt to make an immediate impact as a shooting guard in the Lehigh system. An all-state selection as a senior, Ellis holds school records for most points in a career and in a game, among other marks.
