Lehigh officially got its season underway this morning as the Mountain Hawks went through a two-hour practice. The Mountain Hawks are coming off of a year that saw them record their best record ever in the Patriot League, winning nine games. Head Coach Sue Troyan and her staff have plenty of firepower returning to continue the rise towards the top of the Patriot League.
2003 Patriot League Rookie of the Year Dawn Gorynski returns for her sophomore year and will be looked upon to not only defend and distribute, but also improve upon her 10.5 scoring average of a year ago. Junior Chantal St. Laurent, a speedy guard, who can push the ball upcourt and shut down the opposition with her defense, joins Gorynski in the backcourt.
Senior Jana Ransom and junior Jessica DePalo will be the focus on the interior for the Mountain Hawks. Both saw significant time last season with DePalo starting 18 games, and Ransom, 25. A talented group of freshmen also join the Mountain Hawk lineup this season, with each having the chance to step in and contribute.
Lehigh will take on the NWBL USA Basketball Elite Team in an exhibition match on Saturday, November 8, at Stabler Arena starting at 5:30. The Mountain Hawks will get their regular season underway on November 21 when they take on the Dukes of Duquesne. Game time is set for 5:30.
