Lehigh held its annual women’s basketball banquet on Sunday, April 27 inside Iacocca Hall on the Mountaintop Campus. Two Lehigh players captured awards on the afternoon, in a program that included lunch, presentation of three awards, reflections from the program’s four departing seniors, and the viewing of a highlight film that looked back at the Mountain Hawks’ 2002-2003 season. Senior captain Anne Tierney captured both the Athlete of the Year and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards. The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. The Scholar-Athlete Award goes to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his/her teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Tierney captured both honors after leading the team in scoring and rebounding on the court, and posting a 3.89 GPA as a double-major in economics and finance in the classroom. Sophomore Jessica DePalo won the Coaches Award at the banquet. The Coaches Award is presented to the individual who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. DePalo worked hard last off-season, and earned a spot in Lehigh’s starting lineup as one of the most improved players on the team.
