Bethlehem, PA – For the fifth time this season, Lehigh freshman point guard Dawn Gorynski has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. The award – voted on by members of the media and the league’s sports information directors – is for the week ending February 16. In two games played last week, Gorynski averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, as the Mountain Hawks split a pair of games. In Tuesday’s win over Bucknell, Gorynski scored 7 points, pulled down three rebounds, and dished two assists. At American on Saturday, she was 4-for-9 from the floor, dropping eight points. She added two assists and three steals on the afternoon. Lehigh has won six of its last seven games, and is off to its best-ever start in Patriot League play with an 8-2 record. The Mountain Hawks currently stand just one game behind first place Holy Cross in the league standings, with four games remaining. Through 22 contests, Gorynski is third on the team, averaging 9.9 points per game. She has started at the point guard position every game this season, and leads the Patriot League with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.30. Her 3.45 assists per game also ranks among the league leaders, and is tops on the team. Gorynski is also tops in the league from beyond the arc, shooting 40.5% from long range. Lehigh (11-11, 8-2 Patriot League) returns to action on Friday when the Mountain Hawks visit Army. Game time is set for 5:30 from Christl Arena in West Point, New York.
