Gorynski tabbed league's Rookie of the Week

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh freshman point guard Dawn Gorynski has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the week ending February 2. Gorynski has now won the award – voted on by league sports information directors and members of the media – four times so far this season. In two games played last week, Gorynski averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while shooting 52% from the floor. With help from Gorynski, the Mountain Hawks won both games. In Friday’s win at Holy Cross, Dawn was 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-for-5 from beyond the three point arc. She scored 14 points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out a career-best seven assists in handing the Crusaders their first regular season league loss at home since 1994. On Sunday at Colgate, Gorynski scored a career-high 23 points, including 16 in the first half. She knocked down five treys, recorded four boards, and blocked her first shot. "Every time I go out onto the floor, I try to do whatever I can to help our team win," Gorynski said. "It’s nice to be honored, but the most important thing is that we continue to play well as a team and continue to win." Lehigh has won its last four contests, and the two wins over the weekend propelled the Mountain Hawks into a first-place tie with Holy Cross in the Patriot League standings, halfway through the league schedule. Through 19 contests, Gorynski is second on the team, averaging 10.2 points per game. She has started at the point guard position every game this season, and leads the Patriot League with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.50. Her 3.68 assists per game also ranks among the league leaders, and is tops on the team. Gorynski is also tops in the league from beyond the arc, shooting 45.1% from long range. Lehigh (9-10, 6-1 Patriot League) returns to action on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks host Navy.
