Lehigh announces 2002-2003 schedule

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh University's women's basketball team has released its official schedule for the upcoming 2002-03 season. The schedule is available on-line by visiting the women's basketball section of www.lehigh.edu. As has been the case in recent years, Lehigh plays a challenging non-league schedule to get the Mountain Hawks ready for league competition, which begins in January. Lehigh opens its season against Santa Clara, and welcomes Ball State for the Christmas City Classic – both NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago. In addition, Lehigh once again will take on Virginia Commonwealth, and will also pay a visit to Valparaiso before the Patriot League portion of the schedule. "By playing strong teams early, I think we’ll be better prepared for the grind that is the Patriot League schedule," head coach Sue Troyan explains. The Patriot League portion of the schedule should once again be a tough challenge. Both Bucknell and Holy Cross saw post-season action last year, and Colgate defeated Lehigh twice. However, with 12 players returning from last year’s talented group – including preseason all-league selection Anne Tierney – the Mountain Hawks are a team that no other league foe should be looking past in 2002-2003. Once again, the regular season will be followed by the Patriot League tournament. The initial rounds of the annual tournament will be held on March 7th and 9th at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD. The Patriot League finals will take place on Wednesday, March 12th. The highest remaining seed will host the championship game. Season tickets for Lehigh basketball are available for the upcoming season and can be purchased by calling (610)-7LU-GAME.
