Mountain Hawks host Eagles in battle of birds
9/16/2003 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Fresh off a double overtime, thrilling upset win over the defending league champion on Saturday, the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh look for their third consecutive Patriot League win as Lehigh hosts American on Wednesday evening at Stabler Arena. Lehigh is 3-1 in league play, while the Eagles are 2-2 in their maiden Patriot League voyage. The Mountain Hawks set a number of individual career highs in Saturday’s win, led by Cat Nicholson’s 22 point barrage on a career high 7-of-8 shooting from downtown. Jana Ransom posted her first career double-double (20 points, 11 boards), Carli Toliver drained 5 three pointers, and Anne Tierney recorded her fourth double-double in as many league games. Tierney needs only five rebounds Wednesday to become Lehigh’s all-time leader in career boards. American is led by three players in double figures: Katryn Costenbader’s 15.7 points per game leads the team, while Chanel Spriggs (12.3) and Maria Werries (11.3) also average double figures. Last time the two teams squared off, AU downed Lehigh 90-57 in 1998 at the Eagles’ Bender Arena. Only American’s Hollie Steinman participated in that contest. Wednesday’s game is the front end of a doubleheader, and tips off at 5:30. Audio coverage begins at 5:15, and Service Electric TV-2 will broadcast the contest on Wednesday night beginning at 9:30.
