Lehigh to compete in Miami tournament

The Mountain Hawks head south following a four-game home set to take part in the Gatorade Holiday Classic at the University of Miami. Lehigh will square off against the Hurricanes for the first time ever on December 27, and will then play either Bowling Green or Yale on December 28.

Lehigh heads to Florida having lost its last two contests to UMBC and VCU. Junior co-captain Anne Tierney scored 22 points in a losing effort against the Rams on Thursday, and freshman Kelly Berk paced LU with five boards.

When Miami returns to action, the Hurricanes will be a well-rested group. The Canes last played on December 15, when they cruised to a 15-point road win over Florida Atlantic. The Hurricanes had five players score in double figures that afternoon, led by Meghan Saake’s 24 points (10-15 FG) and five steals.

The winner of the Lehigh-Miami game will move on to the championship game on Friday at 7:00 to face the Bowling Green-Yale winner. The two other teams will square off Friday at 5:00. The Mountain Hawks have never played the BGSU Falcons, and have not seen the Bulldogs of Yale since the 1999-2000 season (Lehigh won that meeting).

Both Lehigh games will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site, with Jeff Tourial providing the play-by-play. Pre-game coverage begins 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
