Tierney selected as top scholar-athlete

Bethlehem, PA---Sophomore Anne Tierney was selected as the 2001 Patriot League Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first in woman player in Lehigh history. The economics major currently holds a 3.85 GPA and her accomplishments on and off the court contributed to her team’s success in the 2000-01 season. Tierney led the league in rebounding (11.2 rpg) for the second straight year and was second in scoring (17.4 ppg). The 1999-2000 Patriot League Rookie of the Year also garnered a spot on the 2001 Verizon Academic All District Team, being the only sophomore on the squad. This season Tierney set new school records for rebounds in a season (335) and tied a Patriot League record for rebounds in a game with 21 against Navy on January 27th. Tierney also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark on February 24th. With 1,059 career points, Tierney trails All Time leader Sherie Androlewicz by just 640 points. With 617 career rebounds, Tierney also is in sight for the all time rebounding record, needing 172 caroms to be the all time leader. Also among her accomplishments this season, Tierney was named Patriot League Player of the Week twice and was named First Team All Patriot League and a spot on the Patriot League All Tournament Team. This season, the Mountain Hawks finished 16-14 and fell to Holy Cross in the Patriot League Final.
