BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks will look to rebound from Wednesday night’s loss to Princeton when they host the Villanova Wildcats Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Tigers were able to jump on Lehigh early and the Brown and White could never get into a rhythm. Despite outscoring Princeton 41-28 in the second half, the Brown and White still fell to the Tigers 86-68. Four players scored in double-figures for the Mountain Hawks and senior Alex Ross led the way with a season-high 18 points. Villanova comes into Saturday on a two-game win streak after defeating Evansville 56-49 and Chattanooga 64-59. Redshirt freshman Laura Sweeney is leading the way for the Wildcats averaging 10.6 points per game and was named Philadelphia’s Big Five Player of the Week.
Junior Erica Prosser is second in the Patriot League in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Ross now sits 11 three-pointers away from becoming Lehigh’s all-time leader and she is currently third in the league with 2.6 three-pointers per game. The Mountain Hawks sit alone in first place in the league standings as the only team to not have at least three losses.
A win Saturday night would give Lehigh 20 straight home victories which is tied for the fifth longest win-streak in Division I. The Wildcats narrowly edged out Lehigh last season 58-52 in a game that saw junior Courtney Dentler earn her first career start. Both teams went onto make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Saturday night from the Stabler Arena on the Goodman Campus. The game will be broadcast live on WLVR-FM (91.3) and can also be heard live on Lehighsports.com with Mike Lederer and Matt Abramowitz on the call. Tickets are available in advance by calling 610-7LU-GAME or online at Lehighsports.com, and on game day at the Stabler Arena box office 60 minutes prior to tipoff. All fans are encouraged to bring their personal cameras to the game where they will have the opportunity to get their picture taken with the Patriot League championship trophy and with Clutch – the Lehigh mascot – in the lobby from 6:30 pm until halftime.
