Lehigh hosts Colgate in opening round Saturday

The Mountain Hawks showed the killer instinct that earned them the top seed in the Patriot League Tournament, putting the Crusaders away in the second half on Saturday. Lehigh went into the break tied with Holy Cross, but outscored the Crusaders 37-26 in the second en route to the 71-60 victory. Emily Gratch set a career high with 20 points in the win. The freshman also pulled down six rebounds and notched three blocks, two assists and two steals, as she was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Alex Ross topped her own school record by knocking down four more triples on Saturday to put her total at 80 3-pointers made on the season. Ross ranks fourth nationally in 3-pointers made per game (3.1) and seventh in 3-point field goal percentage (.437).
Colgate fell to 5-24 on the season with a 65-35 loss to Navy in the season finale Saturday. The Raiders shot just 25.5 percent from the floor and allowed the Midshipmen to shoot 51.8 percent from the field. The Raiders finished eighth in the league with a 1-13 record in Patriot League play; the lone victory coming in a thrilling, 62-61 game at
Lehigh and Colgate have met 46 times on the basketball court, with Lehigh holding a 25-21 advantage all time. Each school has gone through stretches of dominance in the series history, with the Mountain Hawks holding the recent edge. Colgate controlled the early portion of the matchups, winning 10 of the first 14 through 1995, but the Mountain Hawks won 12 of the next 15 from 1996 through 2001. From 2002-2006, the Raiders won eight of the next 10, but they have not won since. Lehigh claimed victory in the last seven meetings, including a 61-43 win at home in the the first meeting this year and a 71-42 victoy on the road on Feb. 18.
